Brett & Victory Salute (aka Sam) at AELEC Tamworth September 2009
Brett's Report.
Last week we travelled to Tamworth to the NSW State Championships, hosted by the hard working Tamworth Dressage Club at the wonderful AELEC.The event itself was a great success and the new AELEC facility has definitely succeeded in becoming Australia's greatest venue.
Sam (Victory Salute) and I had a very relaxing weekend having just two tests over two days. The first test was the Grand Prix on Friday afternoon. This test for us was a good one and all but a small mistake in the one tempi's was pretty unblemished. When the dust had settled after the competition, we came out of top with 67.75%, in front of Heath Ryan with Regardez Moi in second place and Rachel Sanna on Jaybee Alabaster close behind.
The Freestyle night was as usual very exciting with the top four horses scoring in excess of 70%. As I rode around the arena, Heath was receiving a very strong applause from an appreciative crowd, as he had delivered another great performance. Then Rachel's score was announced at 73.3%. I knew I had a lot to do so with that in mind, in we went......
Sam worked the best he has worked in ages and apart from one confusing aid from his rider, produced a beautiful mistake free test. I was annoyed as usual with my stupidity and anxiously awaited the core. Then they announced it: 76.85% and a new Australian record for the Grand Prix Freestyle. We were all very happy and as always, Sam bailed me out again.
We agreed out back that Heath should lead the Quadrille, as he is the best at it. So the top 6 riders gave a Quadrille in appreciation of Tamworth for having us. So in summary, the NSW State Championships were great for us in our lead up to Team selections for WEG, and a roaring success for Dressage in general.

An Update from Brett
"This month I have been in Thailand coaching Singapore at the SEA Games. Even though Singapore didn't win any medals, I had the chance to make a lot of connections in all of the South East Asian countries. Last weekend I conducted another successful clinic at Boneo Park on the Mornington Peninsula.
We have also hosted an Australian Squad clinic at our place in the middle of December. All members of the high performance panel were here during the week. Since the clinic I have spoken to the Australian selectors, who have indicated that they are looking very closely at Victory Salute and me for Australian representation in February at the Pacific League Qualifier, and in August for the Olympic Games. So in all, things are going well for us in spite of the horrible time everyone has been through over the past four months.

Brett Parbery is a professional dressage competitor who has dedicated his life to the understanding and training of competition dressage horses.
Brett Parbery was raised on a cattle property in the mountainous district of Dorrigo, NSW. He was raised within a professional training stable producing horses for western sports such as cutting, campdrafting and rodeo.
After a fruitful career in the western sports, including a successful stint competing on the pro rodeo circuit of North America and Canada, Brett decided to return to Australia to search for new challenges in the equine industry. Having always been fascinated with the equestrian sports, Brett decided to try his hand at the most complex of them all, Dressage.
This was at the end of 1998. Since committing to dressage, Brett has had success at both State and National levels, and has spent three of the last five years abroad learning his chosen trade from the best in the world, the Germans and the Dutch.
Nowadays, Brett has built up a professional training stable and is based just north of Sydney in the popular equestrian locality of Arcadia. At Suntori Park, Brett and his elite team of dressage horses enjoy the world class facilities provided by the Rapson family.
